Cardiac Rehab Explorer

Patient education · Interactive 3D visualization

AMI Award of Merit, Professional Interactive, 2020

Cardiac Rehab Explorer is an interactive clinical education application designed to help clinicians explain cardiac and arterial anatomy, disease progression, and treatment options to patients. I designed and developed the application from initial Adobe XD concepts through the finished build, with clinical guidance from cardiac rehabilitation specialist Cemal Ozemek.

How it works

  • Rotate, pan, and zoom into MRI-based 3D models

  • Toggle internal anatomy

  • Paint directly on model surfaces

  • Illustrate interventions such as stent placement

  • Compare treatment approaches

  • Access follow-up resources

What it explains

  • Heart anatomy

  • Arterial anatomy and plaque

  • Blood clots

  • Medication and treatment approaches

  • Patient calls to action

1. Explore anatomy

Interactive 3D models let users examine external and internal cardiac anatomy from multiple angles.

2. Compare disease states

Side-by-side visualizations help explain how changes such as plaque buildup and arterial stiffness affect cardiovascular anatomy and function.

3. Explain treatment

Animated treatment views illustrate interventions such as stent placement, thrombolysis, and balloon angioplasty step by step.

4. Annotate and guide

Clinicians can draw directly on the models, highlight areas of concern, and connect patients to follow-up education and resources.

See the application in action.

The application remains functional on PC and Mac and demonstrates how interactive visualization can support patient education and clinician–patient communication.
